Volvelles are elaborate wheel charts that can be found in medieval books; an ingenious paper construction with numerous rotating parts used, amongst other things, to calculate the phases
of the moon and other astrological and dark magic calculations. Like the cycles a volvelle may pass through to arrive at a reading the music travels through numerous passages before
aligning on a section close to the end marked dancing after which the piece quickly dissolves.
First performance given by Mark Simpson (clarinet) and Phil Dawson (electronics) at Kings Place, London on 11/12/21.
